The ranking system allows players of equal caliber to play against each other, as opposed to a more experienced player having to take on someone new to the game or an introductory player immediately being outwitted by a long-term LoL champ. Apex SBMM is ruining my life. It lies with the makers of the inherently flawed skill-based matchmaking system that Apex employs — the devs of Respawn Entertainment. I am not one of those people.
Im just wondering about the win rate. So lets say i play my first matches or whatever then i decide to play ranked. I have won all of my placement matches and lost almost all of them and seems to put me roughly in the same place. So lets say I end up silver 2. If i win 20 in a row and move up a bunch then i will start losing a bunch and end up right where i was. If this is not how it works someone plz explain.
I play with people all the time who i constantly out stat and play but they are in way better leagues then i am not that im any good just saying. I dont understand how i am supposed to move out of my league seems impossible. Every time i do i seem to hit a real bad losing streak even though i am still keeping up with people and end up right back where i was. Elo hell is a video gaming term used in MOBAs and other multiplayer online games with competitive modes. It refers to portions of the matchmaking ranking spectrum where individual It was initially used by the League of Legends community, but spread in usage to other games that used the same ranking system. In these.
League of Legends MMR system uses the ELO concept firstly designed for chess, the system was meant to tell what the skill of the players is based on who they win and lose against. Nowadays it is used in almost all competitive ladders to match players of the same skill with each other, whether it’s online gaming or sports. It has been with league of legends since the birth of the game and is still used up to this day. What this means, in a nutshell, is that the higher division you have, the better your MMR is, and thus the longer it takes you to find equal opponents.
The MMR system in LoL will put two teams of equal average elo rating against each other, so for example if team 1 had one gold player, one diamond player, and three platinum players, the other team would have 5 platinum players to equalize the game MMR and skill level and make sure it’s not an uneven match. It works like this from the bottom positions to the top positions on the ladder, and on the borders of the ladder in challenger and iron divisions it might cause issues due to very few players being there- resulting in prolonged match search times and often uneven games, such as teams being composed in this way.
In League of Legends, the MMR system has been used since the beginning of the game, and your elo was visible up until the start of ranked season three, where Riot decided to cover up with a bunch of tiers and divisions to make the game more attractive for new players. League client or any other tools don’t directly show us our normal games MMR. Therefore it is considered hidden, so most people even question its existence, but fear not- it is there!
Even if you have an account that doesn’t have any ranked games on it ever, and put a challenger level player on it that goes on a normal game winning streak, he will see massive increasement in the level of skill of the players in his games as well as their higher average ranked rank. Playing Normal games is definitely not pointless if you give it enough time, and it’s an excellent way to practice your gameplay against strong players without fear of losing your ranked elo and division.

Answers go live every other Thursday at pm PT. Ask Riot gets a lot of questions about how we decide on your teammates and opponents in League, and we wanted to take some of the frequently asked ones and give them to the designers that work on matchmaking, champion select, position select, and all that good stuff. In terms of design, we want League to be a game where getting a small advantage and running with it is one path to victory.
Any small successes that are snowballed can determine early leads, and then sometimes the result of the game. Being wrecked is much more visceral than the joy of dominating your opponent, and the really bad moments can unfortunately be more memorable than the great ones. While we know our matchmaking systems are never going to be perfect, and sometimes you or your opponent will end up with a 20 minute win, we try everything we can to prevent imbalance before the game has even started, and consider it a huge priority to ensuring League remains competitive.
We think this is the right tradeoff compared to having a volatile rank—being demoted feels rough, and reaching a tier should be a decent indication that you can play at that level. Our perspective on the queues is that ranked should continue to be where you put on your tryhard pants. In contrast, unranked queues should be a place to play and experiment in a less intense competitive setting.
Beyond this, we want to provide an outlet for experimentation and lower stakes through unranked modes.
ridiculously 1 sided matchmaking?!?
Before queueing up for ranked, you first have to complete a total of 20 unrated matches. This gives you a hidden matchmaking rating and pits you against players of a similar skill. But even if you lose all of your placement matches, your performance will be taken into consideration. Altogether, your hidden matchmaking rating, determined from unrated matches, your personal performance, and your win ratio across your five placement matches will all go towards your initial rank.
Placement matches can also be played with friends, up to premades of five. Even if your friends have already acquired a rank, you should, to a certain extent, be able to play with them.

Matchmaking is the existing automated process in League of Legends that matches a player to and against other players in games. The system estimates how good a player is based on whom the player beats and to whom the player loses. It knows pre-made teams are an advantage, so it gives pre-made teams tougher opponents than if each player had queued alone or other premades of a similar total skill level Riot Games Inc.
The basic concept is that the system over time understands how strong of a player you are, and attempts to place you in games with people of the same strength. As much as possible, the game tries to create matches that are a coin flip between players who are about the same skill. The Matchmaking System works along with a modified version of the Elo system. From there, the game is played. If a player wins, the player gain points. On the contrary, if the player loses, he loses points. If the win was “unexpected” i.
